Lovella:

All right, quick space question to start us off.

Lovella:

What is the name of the recent NASA mission that just flew a crew around the moon?

Steve:

Okay, that is the Artemis II.

Steve:

Correct.

Lovella:

Welcome to Kids vs. Parents.

Steve:

The family trivia battle where the backseat takes on the front seat.

Steve:

I'm Lovella.

Steve:

And I'm Steve.

Steve:

Today, we're playing Space Trivia due to the success of the recent NASA mission.

Steve:

We've decided to do a space episode.

Steve:

It has been majorly requested, right, Lovella?

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Who has requested this episode?

Lovella:

We've had Henry and Ingrid from Vancouver, Canada, and we've had Zoe from Richmond, Virginia.

Steve:

That's right.

Steve:

And lots of people have requested space because it's been a big space-themed month.

Steve:

So we're excited to do some space trivia for everybody because we're all in the mood for

Steve:

some space trivia, right, Lovella?

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Because we don't live too far away from San Diego where the astronauts splashed down.

Steve:

We were watching the skies to see if we could see them come in, but they were a bit far away.

Lovella:

Yeah.

Steve:

But it was fun.

Lovella:

Yeah, it was.

Lovella:

All right, Dad, what's our prize today?

Steve:

Okay, so I was thinking about our prize today for the winner,

Steve:

and we're going to do something a little bit different.

Steve:

We're going to make it a punishment for the loser.

Steve:

So the loser today has to pretend like they're walking on the moon for the next five minutes.

Steve:

After the episode, they have to pretend like they're moonwalking.

Lovella:

Oh, that's great.

Steve:

That'll be fun.

Steve:

I can't wait to see you do that.

Steve:

I can't wait to see you do that.

Lovella:

Mm-hmm.

Steve:

So if you're in the car, you have to wait until you get out to do the moonwalking.

Lovella:

All right, Dad.

Lovella:

So who goes first?

Steve:

I say we send the kids up first.

Steve:

So kids, strap yourselves in.

Steve:

You're up first.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

All right, kids.

Steve:

Question number one.

Steve:

What planet is famous for its rings?

Lovella:

Oh, man.

Lovella:

I think I'm going to have to go through all the planets.

Lovella:

Earth.

Steve:

That's one.

Lovella:

Jupiter.

Lovella:

Mars.

Lovella:

Is there an S?

Steve:

There is an S one.

Lovella:

Saturn.

Lovella:

It's Saturn.

Steve:

You sure?

Lovella:

No, yeah, it's Saturn.

Steve:

Well done.

Steve:

Correct.

Steve:

I got so scared.

Lovella:

I was like, whoa.

Lovella:

For some reason, I thought of the planet, like I thought of a random, like what?

Lovella:

I don't even think this is a planet, but I thought of the word Sagittarius.

Steve:

Sagittarius?

Steve:

I don't know.

Steve:

That's a constellation and a star sign.

Lovella:

Okay, then.

Lovella:

It's close enough.

Steve:

You were kind of in the vein of space, but not quite a planet.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Well done, Lovella.

Steve:

You're on the board.

Steve:

Here we go.

Steve:

Question number two.

Steve:

How long does it take Earth to orbit the sun?

Lovella:

It takes a year, 365 days.

Steve:

One year.

Steve:

You are correct.

Steve:

Well done, Lorella.

Steve:

Yes.

Steve:

Good job.

Steve:

Two on the board.

Steve:

I've got to get something a little bit harder for you now.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Question number three.

Steve:

What type of animal was the first to orbit the Earth?

Lovella:

Ooh.

Steve:

So what animal was the first animal to orbit?

Lovella:

Some of the animals that have gone to space.

Steve:

Yeah.

Lovella:

There's a frog, a fish, a dog, and a monkey.

Steve:

Yeah.

Lovella:

Have gone to space.

Steve:

Which one was first?

Lovella:

Oh, man.

Lovella:

I feel like it's a fish or a dog.

Steve:

Fish or a dog went first?

Lovella:

I don't know.

Lovella:

Maybe it's a frog.

Lovella:

Maybe it's a monkey.

Lovella:

I don't know.

Steve:

You're going to have to pick one.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

I'm going to pick a dog.

Steve:

You're going to go with a dog?

Steve:

You are correct.

Steve:

Yes.

Lovella:

Okay.

Steve:

Any idea what the dog's name was, the first dog to go in space?

Steve:

Comet.

Steve:

Oh, that's a great name for a dog going space.

Steve:

I know, right?

Steve:

But no, it was Laika.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

Now, a little caveat to this question.

Steve:

The first actual animal to ever go into space were fruit flies.

Lovella:

Fruit flies?

Steve:

Yeah, fruit flies.

Lovella:

They purposely sent them up there?

Steve:

Uh-huh.

Steve:

They were the first animal to really go up.

Steve:

But the dog was the first one who actually orbited the Earth a little bit,

Steve:

like right into the orbit that far out.

Steve:

Fruit flies didn't go as far.

Lovella:

Oh.

Steve:

There you go.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Well done.

Steve:

I've got to give you another one.

Steve:

You're going to get a clean sweep here in a second.

Lovella:

I did not expect a clean sweep.

Steve:

You didn't expect a clean sweep?

Steve:

You don't know your space trivia?

Lovella:

Well, I'm not a big fan of space.

Lovella:

Sorry to all those space lovers.

Lovella:

And I also don't know that much.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Here we go.

Steve:

Question number four.

Steve:

I'm going to make this a hard one for you.

Steve:

Name the eight planets in order from the sun.

Lovella:

I can't do that.

Lovella:

I don't even know what order they go in.

Steve:

You don't know any of the order?

Lovella:

No.

Lovella:

Don't know.

Lovella:

So starting with the sun.

Steve:

So the sun isn't a planet.

Steve:

What is the first planet closest to the sun and then work your way back?

Lovella:

I know that's not Earth.

Lovella:

I think Earth is like second or third.

Steve:

It's third.

Steve:

So there you go.

Steve:

I'll help you.

Steve:

It's the third one from the sun.

Steve:

So what are the two in front of it?

Lovella:

I can't remember the planet.

Steve:

You don't know any idea?

Steve:

Don't they give you a little rhyme at school to remember the planets?

Lovella:

No.

Lovella:

I don't remember.

Steve:

No?

Steve:

You don't remember?

Lovella:

Well, it didn't stick with me because I don't remember.

Steve:

You don't remember?

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

I'm not going to get this one right.

Lovella:

I'm not going to get this.

Lovella:

I'm not going to get it right anyway.

Lovella:

Even if I do figure it out, I'm not going to get it right.

Steve:

Can you get any of them right?

Steve:

I got Earth, right?

Steve:

Well, yeah.

Steve:

With some help from me, but.

Lovella:

Saturn?

Steve:

No.

Lovella:

Is.

Steve:

What's the first one?

Lovella:

The first one?

Steve:

Closest to the sun.

Lovella:

I want to say Pluto, but that's not a planet anymore.

Steve:

No, not officially a planet anymore.

Steve:

I said eight.

Steve:

Pluto's not included in the eight.

Steve:

Is it Mars?

Steve:

No.

Steve:

That is close to us.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

You don't know the answer?

Steve:

Here is the answer.

Steve:

Mercury.

Steve:

Oh.

Steve:

Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

Steve:

That is the order.

Lovella:

Okay.

Steve:

It was like a rhyming device for remembering the order.

Steve:

This is one of them.

Steve:

There's lots of them.

Steve:

My very educated mother just served us nachos.

Lovella:

Oh my gosh, I remember that.

Steve:

Do you remember that?

Lovella:

I do.

Lovella:

My very educated mother just served us nachos.

Steve:

Yeah, so that is the-

Lovella:

We might have said it a bit differently.

Lovella:

Like, I don't think it was educated.

Steve:

Yeah, there might be other rhyming devices.

Lovella:

But I do remember that now.

Steve:

So now you can remember that.

Steve:

My very educated mother just served us nachos.

Lovella:

Wow.

Lovella:

Okay.

Steve:

There you go.

Lovella:

Well, I got it wrong anyway.

Steve:

Okay, Lovella, quick score check for you.

Steve:

What did you get?

Lovella:

Three out of four.

Steve:

Three out of four.

Steve:

Okay, well done.

Lovella:

All right, parents, you're up next.

Lovella:

Drop yourselves in.

Lovella:

All right, parents, here we go.

Lovella:

Question number one.

Lovella:

What does NASA stand for?

Steve:

Oh, man.

Steve:

National Air and Space Association.

Steve:

National Air and Space Association.

Steve:

I think I'm going to go with that.

Steve:

National Air and Space Association.

Lovella:

You were close.

Steve:

I'm not right.

Lovella:

National Aeronautics.

Steve:

Oh, Aeronautics.

Lovella:

Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Steve:

Oh, okay.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

So I was close.

Steve:

Not quite there.

Lovella:

Yeah.

Steve:

I missed the aeronautics.

Steve:

So what is it?

Lovella:

National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Steve:

Administration.

Steve:

question. Good try. Not on the board yet. All right. Failure to launch so far. Here we go.

Lovella:

Question number two. Name the three crew members of Apollo 11 the first mission to land on the moon.

Steve:

Oh, you're getting me with a tricky one here.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

So Apollo 11.

Steve:

So Neil Armstrong.

Lovella:

Yeah.

Lovella:

First man on the moon.

Steve:

That's right.

Steve:

And then Buzz Aldrin was the other one.

Steve:

Now, there's a guy who stayed in the ship.

Steve:

He didn't get to walk on the moon.

Steve:

Why not?

Steve:

Because he had to stay in the ship.

Steve:

Someone has to stay in the ship, in the command module.

Steve:

He wasn't able to.

Steve:

Poor him.

Steve:

I know.

Steve:

He got all the way to the moon and he didn't get to step out on there.

Steve:

Now, you're asking me what his name is.

Steve:

And I don't know his name.

Steve:

And I'm so sorry to the third crew member who went to space and never landed on that famous mission.

Steve:

Because you should be remembered as much as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

Steve:

But I don't remember his name.

Steve:

It was a very common name, like Christopher or something.

Steve:

Chris.

Steve:

Chris.

Steve:

Maybe that was his last name, something with Chris.

Steve:

I don't know the answer.

Steve:

I'm going to say Chris Michaels.

Lovella:

Okay.

Steve:

Chris Michaels.

Lovella:

All right.

Lovella:

So the correct answer was Neil Armstrong.

Steve:

Yes.

Lovella:

Buzz Aldrin.

Lovella:

Yep.

Lovella:

And Michael Collins.

Steve:

Oh, okay.

Steve:

So you kind of like mixed it up a little bit.

Steve:

Closer than I thought I was.

Lovella:

Yeah.

Steve:

But okay, Michael Collins.

Steve:

Michael Collins, if you're listening or your family, we're sorry.

Steve:

I'm sorry that I forgot you.

Steve:

That is a very famous mission, but I'll try and remember you for next time.

Steve:

Michael Collins.

Lovella:

All right.

Lovella:

Question number three.

Lovella:

What robotic rover landed on Mars in 2012 and explored Gale Crater?

Steve:

oh um okay so i mean the only mars rover that i know that's gone up is the curiosity i don't know

Steve:

any other one that went up.

Steve:

So that's going to be my only answer.

Lovella:

Correct.

Steve:

Yay.

Lovella:

Curiosity rover.

Steve:

Curiosity rover.

Steve:

Okay, cool.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

I'm on the board.

Lovella:

Nice.

Steve:

Finally.

Steve:

It only took me three questions.

Lovella:

Yeah, it only took you.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

I've launched now.

Steve:

I'm not quite through the atmosphere yet,

Steve:

but let's see if I can get another question.

Lovella:

Last question.

Lovella:

What is the largest planet in our solar system?

Steve:

um okay that is going to be I think it's Jupiter but hang on let me just think Mercury Venus Earth

Steve:

Mars, Jupiter.

Lovella:

My very educated mother.

Lovella:

What was the rest?

Lovella:

My very educated mother.

Steve:

Just served us nachos.

Steve:

I'm going to say it is Jupiter, I think.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

I'm going to say Jupiter.

Lovella:

Correct.

Steve:

Yes.

Steve:

I thought that was the right answer.

Steve:

Yeah.

Steve:

Okay, cool.

Steve:

But I questioned myself for a second.

Steve:

But yeah.

Steve:

Awesome.

Steve:

Nice.

Steve:

Two.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

So score check for us.

Steve:

I'm on two.

Steve:

You are?

Steve:

Three.

Steve:

Three.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

So kids are out in front in our car.

Lovella:

Which means we're going to our bonus tiebreaker question.

Steve:

Yes.

Steve:

Okay.

Steve:

So first person to answer this question takes home the bonus points, which are two.

Steve:

Two bonus points.

Lovella:

Two bonus points.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

So this question is worth double.

Steve:

First one to buzz in wins.

Steve:

Lovella, do you have the question in front of you?

Lovella:

I do.

Steve:

Wonderful.

Steve:

All right.

Steve:

Go ahead and read the question out.

Steve:

Neither of us know the answer.

Steve:

We've been given this question, so we don't know the answer.

Lovella:

All right, here we go.

Lovella:

Bonus tiebreaker.

Lovella:

What planet is known as the Red Planet?

Steve:

Buzz.

Steve:

Buzz.

Steve:

Yes, I got in.

Steve:

That is Mars.

Steve:

Mars is the Red Planet.

Lovella:

Let's see.

Lovella:

Correct.

Steve:

Yes.

Steve:

Parents win space.

Steve:

I can't wait to see you moonwalk, Bella.

Lovella:

Oh, okay.

Lovella:

Okay. Uh-oh.

Steve:

Kids, if you want in the car, make sure you make your parents do a moonwalk when they leave.
